We are delighted to once again welcome the BAKA ITASHA club to GO JAPAN!
Itasha cars are one of the boldest and most creative parts of Japanese car culture. The word itasha roughly translates to “painful car” in Japanese, originally joking about how over-the-top the anime graphics looked. Today, it has become a worldwide scene combining cars, anime, manga and gaming culture.
Most itasha builds feature large vinyl wraps with anime characters, custom wheels, lowered suspension and colourful lighting. Some are subtle with small decals, while others are fully covered from bumper to bumper. Popular themes come from series like Initial D, Evangelion, Demon Slayer and Love Live!.
The cars are usually Japanese icons such as Nissan Skylines, Silvia S-Chassis models, Toyota Supras, GT86s, Mazda RX-7s and Honda Civics. In the UK, the scene has grown massively over the last few years, with more owners bringing anime-inspired builds to major Japanese car events. There are also a number of non-Japanese makes that are getting the same treatment, which you will see on display.
You will definitely spot itasha cars at Go Japan! alongside drift cars, show builds and classic JDM machines. The event mixes Japanese automotive culture with anime, cosplay and gaming, making it the perfect place for these unique builds. Some owners even theme their outfits and displays to match their cars.
What makes the itasha scene stand out is its creativity and personality. It is fun, expressive and completely different from traditional car culture, which is exactly why crowds love seeing them at shows like Go Japan!
